Damaged floor? Refinish or replace?

This is a question we are often asked by anxious homeowners after flooding, or other causes, have caused damage to their precious hardwood floor. There is no simple answer as it depends on the amount and location of such damage.

If there’s only light damage to the surface, then it’s often possible to undertake a dustless refinishing operation. It is usually wise to have the whole floor treated in this way, otherwise, the treated areas may stand out from the wood that hasn’t been refreshed in this way.

For more serious damage, as well as the damaged planks themselves, it’s usually wise also to have a buffer and adjacent planks replaced – again this offers a much more seamless result.
